Position on board: Kurume, Vice President
Education: AS Degree from Modesto Junior College
Employer: Modesto Junior College for the past 21 years
MSCI involvement: My family first hosted a Japanese student in 1995 at the request of the person who was coordinating the program at that time. I’ve been involved in an increasing capacity ever since.
Why MSCI: I became involved with MSCI as a favor to host a student and my family had such a great experience, that we continued to host for many years after. I liked the aspect of the program that the exchange was reciprocal. In 2001 and 2003 my son’s participated in the program.
Which cities have I been to: I’ve been to Kurume three times as a chaperone and once as a member of a delegation to celebrate our 20th anniversary as a sister city. I’ve been to Canada with a group of Canadians but only as far as Vancouver.
Rewarding experience: The trip to Japan in October 2012 was very memorable. I traveled with several MSCI board members, a local band that performed for the celebration as well as Mayor Marsh and his wife, Dallas.
Favorite country: Canada is a beautiful country, but I truly have enjoyed every country I’ve had opportunity to visit. I visited my son in Germany in July 2014 and we visited Greece, France and Belgium I would love to see more of Europe.
Future travel: In the summer of 2015 I plan to cruise to Alaska. I hope to visit Japan again in the near future.
