The city of Vernon is located in southeastern British Columbia in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. It has been a sister city of Modesto since 1983.  
Vernon Youth Visit Modesto
The Queen Silver Star and the Silver Star Princesses visit Modesto in October 2008. These young ladies are crowned at the Winter Carnival held in February in Vernon. The closest American equilvalent of this organization is the Junior Miss Program. The group emphasizes public speaking and are wonderful representatives of the city of Vernon. While in Modesto, they spoke to a local Rotary group, visited some local high schools and a Friday night football game, attended a reception at the McHenry Mansion, and represented Canda in the Parade of Flags during the opening cermonies of the International Festival held at the Gallo Center.
